Course contents :  This course is a general introduction to the aquaculture world (mainly marine aquaculture world).
Aquaculture is replaced in its socio-economical context, its historical context and its environmental context. Basic general techniques are presented and applied to the different marine taxa presently cultivated.
This course is informative and concerns students without a background in aquaculture.
A visit at the experimental pisciculture of Tihange (University of Liege) illustrates the main aquaculture characteristics exposed during the oral course.
Course objective :  1. To present general aspect of marine aquaculture (concept, technics, diversity)
2. To place marine aquaculture in its socio-economical context
Prerequisites :  none
Workshops :  Visit at the pisciculture of Tihange (CEFRA, ULg), dissection of a mussel, a decapods crustacean and a marine fish (2x 3h00)
Organization :  Schedule to be determined with student. One afternoon in May for the visit at Tihange)
Written notes :  Notes and powerpoint presentations
Assessment :  oral exam or summary of a scientific paper
