OCEA0025-2  Dynamics of nutrients in marine environment, partim II : ecological processes
Duration :  7,5h Th, 7,5h Pr, 10h FW
Credits/ECTS :
Master in oceanography, Research focus, 2nd yearPremier quadrimestre2
Holder(s) :  Anne Goffart
Language :  Langue française
Course contents :  The aim of the course is to bring to the students an integrated and pluridisciplinar approach of the dynamics of nutrients in marine systems, in relation with the analysis of physical constraints and ecological processes which control trophic flows.

Course objective :  - Control of nutrient dynamics in the ocean by ecological processes

- Control of seasonal phytoplankton communities by nutrient dynamics in reference areas (examples of the Mediterranean Sea - Bay of Calvi - and of the Southern Ocean)

- Impact of anthropogenic activities and climate changes on nutrient availability and plankton biodiversity, including toxic and harmful species

- Assistance to the integrated management of coastal marine environment according to the European regulations (e.g. Water Framework Directive)
Prerequisites :  Basics in
- biological oceanolography
- planctonology
Workshops :  Measurements in the field (Calvi, Corsica) and in the laboratory (Liège)
Organization :  4 x 2 hours Th
1 x 8 hours Pr
10 hours on the field
Written notes :  Reference scientific papers
Assessment :  Oral examination
