civil engineering in physics, 3rd yearToute l'année6
Master in Aerospatial Engineering, in-depth approach, 2nd yearDeuxième quadrimestre5
Master in Biomedical Engineering, in-depth approach, 2nd yearDeuxième quadrimestre5
Master in Engineering Physics, in-depth approach, 2nd yearDeuxième quadrimestre5
Holder(s) :  Ludovic Noels
Language :  Langue française
Course contents :  The course presents the bases of fracture mechanics. Failure of structures is explained by studying the physic of materials. This behavior is then modeled analytically. Finally numerical methods used in fracture mechanics are presented.

Subjects covered by the lectures are

  • Linear elasticity of fracture mechanics (LEFM)
  • Non-linear fracture mechanics (NLFM)
  • Fatigue
  • Design approaches
Prerequisites :  Elementary knowledges in

  • Solid mecanics
  • Finite-element method
Written notes :  Reading material on WebCt (http://www.webct.ulg.ac.be/webct/logon/117191906001.)
Assessment :  Evaluation is based on the realization of a project related to the use / development of numerical methods specific to fracture mechanics.
