MECA0023-2  Advanced Solid Mechanics (Non-Linear Behavior of Solids)
Duration :  30h Th, 30h Pr
Credits/ECTS :
Master in Engineering Physics, in-depth approach, 2nd yearToute l'année5
Holder(s) :  Jean‑Philippe Ponthot
Language :  Langue française
Course contents :  Teaches, based on experimental observations how to build mathematical models describing the non linear behavior of solids, especially elasto-plastic, visco-plastic and visco elastic material models. Subsequently describes the numerical algorithms suited for model solution.
Course objective :  Being able to

  • Understand and design complex material models
  • Understand numerical techniques to solve the model
  • Use a finite element code for structure simulation in the elastic-plastic domain.
Prerequisites :  Mechanics of materials, continuum mechanics and finite elements.
Workshops :  Exercises + personal project
Organization :  1st quadrimester
Written notes :  English version of the slides available via WebCT.
Assessment :  Theory : oral exam (50%)
Exercises : written exam (20%)
Personal project (30%)
