Course contents :  
  • Critical and historical approach to para-literary genres, from popular novels and romantic novels to comic books or crime novels.
  • Construction of a problematic regarding artistic vs. popular literature as a fundamental distinction operating in the francophone cultural universe if not the Western.
Course objective :  
  • To introduce students to para-literary genres (popular novels, fantastic literature, crime novels, science-fiction, songs, comic books, romantic novels, etc.).
  • To make students aware in a critical manner of the categories of reading of the genres to be discussed.
  • To understand and explicate in a historical and sociological manner the emergence of para-literature in the 19th and 20th centuries.
