Course contents :   The Grotesque

This course investigates the notion of the grotesque - as well as a number of related or adjacent categories such as the comic, the bizarre, the absurd, the baroque, the monstrous, the disgusting, the weird and the ridiculous - examining a wide variety of texts by writers as diverse as Edgar Allan Poe, Sherwood Anderson, John Kennedy Toole, Philip Roth, Will Self, David Lynch and Don Van Vliet. Our discussions will be leavened and alleviated by video recordings and other supporting materials.
