Course contents :  Use of Dutch socio-economical vocabulary and texts. The basics of grammar and vocabulary acquired during the preliminary programme will be applied not only through written but also through oral exercices about the socioeconomic life in Flanders and in the Netherlands. Students will be invited to pay attention to the correct pronunciation of Dutch sounds through exercices in the laboratory.
Course objective :  The student will be expected to master the linguistic grammatical and lexical tools in order to be able to use them actively when he/she expresses himself/herself in Dutch, particularly in the spoken language.
Prerequisites :  The Dutch class given in the preliminary programme or, failing that, a good knowledge of basic Dutch.
Workshops :  Four essays to be handed in during the year (cf. schedule handed in at the beginning of the year) and a reading file (distance learning).
Organization :  Theoretical notions of Dutch pronunciation and constant attempts to raise student's awareness of the correct pronunciation of Dutch and of the observance of Dutch grammar rules.

Assessment :  
  • Woordenschat voor handel en economie : the student will be asked to study 20 words (in a context sentence) a week, which comes to about 3 words a day.
  • The written tasks to be handed in during the year and the two oral presentations will account for part of the final mark.
  • Final assessment: listening comprehension (new text), transcription, translation, grammar, written expression and oral expression.
Remarks :  Native Dutch speakers are invited to get in contact with the teacher as soon as possible (adapted programme).
