Course contents :  General objective: This course aims to teach foreign students a basic level of the official Chinese language (putonghua) with a main emphasis on the spoken aspect of the language. In order to reach this goal, the student learns the basic structures, the functions of the language and relevant cultural knozledge. By so doing the student develops the four basic skills for mastering a language: listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.

Covered contents: The book New Practical Chinese Reader, textbook 1 is used in class. The contents of the book relates to the daily life of foreign students in Beijing.The student learns to master basic conversation topics such as how to present oneself and one's country and culture, how to ask general information on campus and in other realms of social life, leisure activities, etc.
Course objective :  C1: knowledge and retainment of the content of the course

C2: Analysis and identification of the interrelated links in written and spoken language
Prerequisites :  no pre-requisite
Workshops :  Given the specific structure of the Chinese language and the lack of commonality between the Chinese language and European languages, it is indispensable that the student studies the material on a regular basis, ideally daily: the pronunciation, the grammatical structures and the appropriate way of writing Chinese characters (hanzi)
Organization :  The adopted methodology includes:

A1: listening to the lecture of the teacher, learning the materials discussed in class, asking and answering between teacher and students

A3: Presentation of the course at the completion of the lesson through conversation sketches of small groups.

General planning:

At this basic level lesson 1 until lesson 7 will be taught. The students are supposed to learn and assimilate the vocabulary and the main grammatical structures. In addition he is capable of writing Chinese characters and hold a basic conversation.

Assessment :  During the academic year: 2 tests (21.11.08 and during the week of 13.03.09)

During the exam period: written and oral examination
