Course contents :  This course is a "survival kit" for the manager in the IT war : what must he know to take part efficiently in IT projects if he's no computer scientist ?
Course objective :  It will attempt to answer these questions :
  • What's an information system, a computer system, a business process ?
  • Why integrate information systems ?
  • How can we represent (model) information systems from a dynamical point of view ?
  • How is it possible to implement or maintain an information system : in-house development, standard packages, ERP, ... ?
  • What's a system development cycle ? How can we manage an IT project (plannings, budgets, profitability) ?
Prerequisites :  Computing for managers : part I and II
Organization :  
  • Lectures referring frequently to real-life cases
  • Case studies
  • Accounts of guest speakers
Written notes :  A readings folder will be distributed. The manual L'Approche processus by Brandenburg will be used.
Assessment :  June :
  • Continuous assesment : course and case studies.
  • Final assesment : MCQ on basic concepts and written report and oral presentation on group assignment.
September :
  • Oral examination
