Course contents :  This course starts with an introduction to the art of programming (ref. language : JAVA). Simple numerical methods are explained and used to support the practical realization of small programs. The second part of the course explains the working of computers, peripherals and network.
Course objective :  Fundamental concepts of programming
Evolution of the computer (history - Moore law)
The JAVA language
Object oriented programming
Programming in JAVA (applets and applications)
Java instruction set and libraries
Fundamental algorithms - user interface (GUI)
Classical programs : word processing, spreadsheet, database, etc...
Network and the Internet
Technical informations : structure of a computer, working principles of the peripherals
Prerequisites :  none
Workshops :  40 hours of programming in front of a computer.
Organization :  The schedule of the teaching is available on the ULg web pages.
Written notes :  A CD-ROM contains the documents concerning the teaching.
