| INFO0079-1 | Computing for economists and managers : part I
| Duration : | 30h Th, 15h Pr |
| Credits/ECTS : |
| Holder(s) : | Alain Dubois, Eddy Heins |
| Language : | Langue française |
| Course objective : | The main aim of the course is to learn how to use a computer connected to networks to perform the daily tasks of a manager or economist - look for information, work with colleagues, draft documents, simulate models, present reports, etc.
These skills however will have to be integrated into the more technical context of computer systems: students have to know something about the hardware and software they use, to understand some basic programming principles and be aware of the role of these technologies.
Finally the course introduces more transversal tools and methods such as mind mapping. |
| Prerequisites : | Basic manipulation of a personal computer. |
| Workshops : | Workshops, in labs or e-learning, are essential to the course. They take place all through the year, alternating with more theoretical presentations. Simple management problems have to be solved with the help of the introduced software programs.
The programs used are available in the computer rooms or on the students' computers. |
| Organization : | Lectures will be ex cathedra. For workshops (in computer rooms) students are divided in smaller groups.
For students not already familiar with the basic use of a computer, self-learning is organised in this respect.
Since the exact sequence of activities will be posted on Lol@ it is essential that students check this webpage at least once a week. |
| Written notes : | Course notes and other needed material will also be available on Lol@. |
| Assessment : | - Tests on PCs to assess prerequisites, the students' skill at programming and using spreadsheets - MCQ to assess students' knowledge in other matters. Exams simulations will be organized. |
