Language :  Langue française
Course contents :
  • Multicast routing.
  • ATM and MPLS networks.
  • Wireless and mobile networks: CDMA, WiFi, cellular networks, Mobile IP.
  • Multimedia Networking - Applications and Transport: streaming stored audio and video (RTSP), multimedia applications over best effort networks, protocols for real-time interactive applications (RTP/RTCP, SIP).
  • Quality of Service (QoS) mechanisms and architectures: scheduling, shaping/policing, packet drop strategies, Diffserv, Quality of Service guarantees, Intserv, RSVP.
  • Seminar on IP telephony, by Eric Vyncke from CISCO Systems.
Course objective :  At the end of the course students will understand well wireless and mobile networks, as well as more advanced concepts of network architectures and protocols able to support multimedia applications.
Prerequisites :  INFO-010: Introduction to computer networks
Workshops :  One project based on the network simulator (ns) and one project consisting of configuring QoS-specific mechanisms of a router. Groups of 3 students.
Organization :  First term (from mid-September to mid December), on Wednesdays, from 9 AM to 12:30 PM.
Written notes :  Reference books:
