Course contents :  1) The book, from Gutenberg to 1850. The book will be studied from a double perspective:

- as a manufactured product (evolution of the printing, typography, illustration and bookbinding techniques; modes of financing and distribution)

- as a transmitter of the thought (cultural context, relations with the religious and political authorities)

2) Libraries from the 15th to the 19th century (typology, evolution).
Course objective :  Underlining the specific contribution of the history of the book to the cultural history.
