| Course contents : | Pigments and colorants have been broadly used in plastic art, but also in a great diversity of daily use objects that become archaeological remains with time. As archaeometry's interest includes both types of objects, a variety of supports are included, like textiles, walls and architecture elements, paper, parchment, wood, and ceramics.
This course focalises on the methodological approach to study pigments: their observation, preparation and physicochemical analyses. A general introduction to the history of pigments, from prehistory to the modern period will be included. |

| Course objective : | To have a first approach to diversified paintings' research: identification, caracterisation, transformations, experimental, reconstructions,...
To learn the basic methodology for doing research in this field. |

| Prerequisites : | None. A minimum of scientific notions is useful, as well as sense of observation. |
 |
| Workshops : | Practical experience will be done in order to seize the problematic concerning technological painting techniques and procedures. |
 |
| Organization : | First semester.
Duration : 25 h theory + 5 h workshop.
Field trips might be included (to confirm). |
