Course contents :  Introduction - Greek art: Prehistoric (Neolithic Greece) and protohistoric (art of the Cyclades, Minoan Crete and the Mycenean mainland) periods; Geometric period; Archaic period; Classical period; Hellenistic period.
Course objective :  The course follows the development of artistic production in Greece from the Neolithic to the end of the Hellenistic era. Emphasis is placed primarily on architecture, sculpture and painting, clarifying the broad developmental trends and characteristics specific to each period. The archaeological context of finds is also taken into consideration, in the perspective of a regular updating of the material with recent discoveries.
Prerequisites :  None, apart from a basic understanding of the history of Greco-Roman antiquity.
Organization :  Duration and period: 30 hours (1st quarter).

Classroom and schedule: Auditorium "Grand Physique", Monday, 10-12h.
Written notes :  As reference works, consultation of the volumes devoted to Greek art in the series "L'univers des formes" (Paris, Gallimard) is recommended.
Assessment :  Multiple-choice examination in three sessions.

Remarks :  Methods of teaching and training: ex cathedra course, with digital images. A syllabus presents a detailed structure of the course and a selection of illustrations (limited to line drawings and thus mainly architectural). Multimedia presentations containing all of the illustrations presented during the course, can be consulted on the computers in the Service. A review session is possible at the end of the year at the request of students.
