GEOL0272-1  Management of groundwater and surface water quantity
Duration :  40h Th, 40h Pr
Credits/ECTS :
Master in Sciences and management of environment, in-depth approach, 2nd year6
Master in sciences and environment management Toute l'année6
Holder(s) :  Serge Brouyère, Alain Dassargues, Benjamin J. Dewals, Philippe Rigo
Language :  Langue française
Course contents :  A) Surface Water part
Hydraulics and management of:
- catchment of meteoric and surface water (run-of-river water intakes and water intakes in reservoirs),
- water lifting,
- water storage: water towers, reservoirs ...
- water supply networks,
- sewage networks and water sanitation.

B) Groundwater part (A. Dassargues and S. Brouyère)
- Quantity indicators for a sustainable groundwater mamagement;
- Impact of climate changes on the groundwater resource and its recharge;
- Remindings: hydrogeological properties and groundwater flow equations;
- Pumping tests and recovery: assumptions, interpretation methods in steady state and transient state, superposition principle, anisotropy, leakance, applications.

C) Hydraulic constructions part (Ph. Rigo)
Course objective :  A) Provide the students with background knowledge about hydraulics and management of water production, transport and distribution techniques, as well as sewage systems and water sanitation. Detail simple approaches for the hydraulic computation of flows occuring in each of those domains.

B) Allow the student to obtain a strong basic knowledge about hydrogeology and groundwater flow problems.

C)
Workshops :  Exercices and practical work sessions are organised following the corresponding theoretical lessons.
Organization :  This course will be given in Arlon
