Course contents :  Mechanisms of rock deformation: strain and infinitesimal stress analysis, rheological laws. Finite strain analysis. Brittle structures: breaking criteria, joints and faults. Ductile structures: cleavage, lineation, boudinage, shear zones, heterogeneous ductile structures and folds.
Course objective :  At the end of the course, the student must be capable of recognizing and interpreting tectonic structures, from microscope scale up to regional scale. He or she must also be capable of understanding scientific papers on structural geology and tectonics.
Prerequisites :  Course of general geology.
Assessment :  Written examination (one exercise) and oral examination (one theoretical question and determination of a tectonic structure from a rock sample or a photograph).
