| Course contents : | This course puts students in the situation of a team of geology engineers, construction engineers, geologists which are asked to work together for a realistic project, such as civil engineering (dams, tunnels), mining (stability in quarries, mines opencast), stability issues (landslides, stability of rock walls, foundations, karst ...), seismic risk (vulnerability and hazard).
The course aims to bring together people from "natural science" and "engineering" who must exchange information and cooperate effectively to carry out the project in an appropriate manner, and demonstrating the importance of taking into account certain geological characteristics with respect to the sustainability of the project and its various players: builders, architect, planner of the territory, habitantsetc. ... It focuses on interdisciplinary teamwork which students will face during their professional careers.
The projects presented are mostly drawn from real case studies. |
 |
| Course objective : | The objectives of the courses are generally specific to each project.
The common objectives are the following: Practical use of the courses seen in the curriculum Interdisciplinary teamwork Synthesis and critical thinking |
 |
| Prerequisites : | The following list includes the materials * generally addressed during project
- Geology
- Geotechnical
- Constructions
- Mechanics of materials
- Hydrogeology
- Geophysics
- Rock Mechanics
- Mineral resources
* Some subjects are covered parallel to this course. It is obvious that the interdisciplinary nature of the project requires people with complementary profiles, and therefore prerequisites apply to the team and not to each individual. / |

| Organization : | This integrated project takes place on the second semester (9 weeks). The weekly reports (minutes) are requested to the teams at each session. 1 secretary and 1 facilitator will be designated at each meeting.
Week 1-2
- Several seminars will be presented by external speakers so that students become familiar with the content of a project involving engineering geology.
- Teams are formed at the first meeting. It is up to them to organize their internal and external collaboration at all levels. The coordination meetings must be reported in minutes.
- Allocation of projects to different teams
Week 3
- Data collection and analysis of existing data, demand for new data.
- Contact with the various stakeholders
- A table of contents of the project must be handed over at the end of the week 3.
Week 4-9
- Field trips, communication with various actors and completion of projects
