Course contents :  The course is dealing with both, the location of the secondary sector and the location of the tertiary sector. Several points will be successively treated: the measure of distribution, the recent changes in the field of economic location and the operational methods related with location choices. These points will be more deeply treated for activities such as retail, public services, tourism and services to firms. The course will combine theory and practices, will deal with various spatial contexts (Belgium, Europe, Global) and with various spatial levels (geopolitical entity, country, region, locality ...). This course is reinforced with two days of fieldworks as well as with five sessions of workshops about location methods.
Course objective :  The first aim of the course is to initiate future geographers with the major principles and theories related with the issue of economic activity location. The aim of the course is to also to prepare the students in order for them to solve the location problems that firms and planners have to face.
Prerequisites :  1. Geography concepts and methods as taught in the course: "Introduction à la géographie économique et sociale" (BAC 1) and in the course "Introduction à la géographie économique" (BAC 2)
2. Course " Economie politique générale " (J. Defourny) (BAC 2).
Workshops :  See herafter "Organisation"
Organization :  - 10 sessions (3 hours) of theoretical lectures (with 5 on industry location and 5 on services location) ;
- 5 sessions (3 hours) of worshops about location methods
- 2 days of fieldwork in the urban regions of Liège and Brussels.

Assessment :  Oral exam with a written preparation = 80% of the quotation (10% for a question about the two days of fieldwork).
Practical exam = 20% of the quotation.
