Course contents :  The first part of the course is related to both, the research methodology in general and the use of its major tools (literature, statistics, quantitative data, surveys and interviews). The second part is concerned with some key research in economic and social geography (population geography, land and property markets, mobility, representation). The third part is made of a reflexive analysis about the research activity (interrogation about the concepts and methodologies, about the differences between fundamental and applied geography). Concerning the worshops, their aims is to apply methods (cartography, statistics, survey analysis) in order to prepare a personal work related with the subject of the thesis
Course objective :  The objective of the course is to prepare the students to achieve researches in the field of economic and social geography, and, more specifically, to prepare them for their thesis.
Prerequisites :  Candidature lectures :
- Introduction aux Sciences géographiques (1er Bac)
- Introduction à la géographie économique (2de Bac)
- Géographie culturelle et politique (3de Bac)
Organization :  - 10 sessions (3 hours) of theoretical lectures
- 5 sessions (3 hours) of workshops
The lectures and the workshops are organized by the teaching staff of the department and by SEGEFA and LEPUR researchers.
Assessment :  The student should present orally a research project after three hours of preparation.
Several reports based on the exercises are also evaluated and make up the note.
