| GEOG0035-1 | Tropical and arid geomorphology
| Duration : | 15h Th, 6h Pr, 1d FW |
| Credits/ECTS : |
| Holder(s) : | Alain Demoulin, André Ozer |
| Language : | Langue française |
| Course contents : | The "tropical" part of the course describes the conditions and processes involved in the chemical weathering of the rocks, looking especially at the ferrallitisation and the ferruginous and siliceous crusts. Then, it discusses the principal morphogenetic mechanisms developed to explain the tropical landscapes (etchplanation, pediplanation). |
| Course objective : | The purpose of the "tropical" part of the course is to highlight the characteristics of the tropical processes and landforms as opposed to the principles and products of the Davisian "normal" erosion. The student should be able to identify the tropical heritage within a particular landscape and to evaluate the climatic significance of tropical landforms. |
| Prerequisites : | For the "tropical" part of the course, basic knowledge in mineral chemistry, mineralogy and geomorphology. |
| Organization : | For the "tropical" part of the course, 4 lectures of 3 hours during the 2nd semester, preferentially grouped within a single week. For the "arid" part , 1 meeting during the second period. Work on the field: morphoscopy of grains of sand wind and report on situation. |
| Written notes : | For the "tropical" part of the course, lecture notes + copy of the PowerPoint file given to the class delegate. |
| Assessment : | Written examination in the 1st session; in case of failure, oral examination in the 2nd session. |
