Course contents :  1. Meaning of the course

- to make the student familiar with the sphere of the finance sector

- to analyse the organisation of credit institutions from the legislation in force (Royal Decree of 03/22/1993 and the circulars of the Banking,Finance and Insurance Commission);

- to explain the balance sheet specific to finance institutions;

- to introduce the main ratios used in the sector.



2. Contents

- Introduction to the banking sector

- Evolution of the sphere of the finance sector

- Structure of the resources and of employments

- Profitability, solvency, liquidity

- Legislation concerning the legal status and supervision of credit institutions

- Law of March 22, 1993

- Main intervening parties

- Prescribed coefficients (equity, liquidity,....)

- Analysis of the balance sheet and of the results account

- Table of management control and main ratios

- Current topics

- Money laundering

- National and international payment systems

- Savings fiscal system
Course objective :  At the end of this course the students will be able to:



- give proof of their acquired knowledge about the working and the organisation of the institutions (C1);

- to explain the contents of the different items of the balance sheet and of the results account of the credit institutions (C1-P2);

- to analyse, on the basis of cases, the strategies developed by different banks and their impacts on the main financial ratios (C3-C4);

- to analyse from a documentary research some specific topics in the finance sector (C4).

Organization :  1. Methods:

A1 Teaching

A1 Research on current topics with the writing of a report (feed-back)

A2 'Assistant questioning' hours : questions and answers to prepare the cases and their presentations

A3 Cases study: preparation of cases by the students and report (feed-back)

A4 Reports writing: reports written in group
