Course contents :  Type and sources of wastes. Collection schemes. Application of unit operations known from mineral processing technology in recycling of solid wastes (mining and metallurgical, post-consumer wastes). Presentation of specific separation techniques developed for waste processing (shredder, balistic separators, pneumatic tables, Eddie current separators, optical sorters, X Ray sorting,...). Principal flow-sheets in use (case studies - batteries, ELV, WEEE, etc.). Possible avenues for end use of the different components derived from waste processing (valorisation -in terms of energy and material recovery). Incineration, co-incineration, thermolysis Treatment of polluted soils.
Course objective :  For the part presented by S.G.

Students will get acquainted with the basic techniques of mineral processing which are adapted by the recycling industry and with the principles for development of flowsheets for solid waste treatment and polluted soils decontamination.
