The objective of this course is to provide students with a general view of the different types of pressure on ecosystems that are due to human activities and of management strategy developed to handle them. The course also aims at developing student's awareness to the perspectives and limits of industrial ecology. |

| Prerequisites : | partim : Emmanuël Sérusiaux See French version
partim: M. Von Frenckell et C. Joaquim-Justo Knowledge of ecosystems and their functioning is required as the course will consider anthropic alterations to their basic structure and processes. |

| Workshops : | partim : Emmanuël Sérusiaux See French version.
Partim: M. Von Frenckell et C. Joaquim-Justo
Seminars on focused or integrated topics will be proposed to students who will have to elaborate and present their analysis of the problems. |

Partim: M. Von Frenckell et C. Joaquim-Justo The course comprises 6 chapters: - Introduction : historical perspective of anthropic impacts - Disruptions of the main biogeochemical cycles: sources of disruptions, transfer between compartments, impacts on ecosystems - Disruptions due to xenobiotics (pesticides and other synthetic chemicals and pharmaceuticals) : brief overview of chemical pollutant types , human activities that yield them and impacts on biocenoses - Physical pollutions (physical alterations of water ways, radioactive pollution,...) and impacts on ecosystems - Resource limits of the biosphere - Management strategies applied to each compartment (air, soil, water) to minimize the impacts - Industrial ecology (emergence, basic concepts, tools, analysis of the resources at stake) |

| Assessment : | partim : Emmanuël Sérusiaux See French version
Partim: M. Von Frenckell et C. Joaquim-Justo Assessment will be based on the analysis of a practical case which will require the integration of concepts and methods considered in the course (written exam + oral depending on the number of students); grades of the seminars will be taken into account as well. |
