Course contents :  This course introduces the essential concepts for creating electronic control systems. It covers power electronics, the design of magnetic elements such as solenoids and transformers, as well as control and measurement.
The electronic circuits which are studied are particularly used in the following applications: powering portable systems such as cell phones or laptop computers, maximising the recuperation of energy produced by photovoltaic cells, powering electric motors using variable frequency, etc. The practical work consists in creating a DC supply with an imposed tension or an AC supply with imposed tension and imposed frequency.
These projects, carried out in small groups, will cover all the stages of designing a real system: pre-dimensioning and modelling, practical construction and testing.
Course objective :  Through a real project, this course will address electronic control systems in a concrete way and give students wanting to specialise in this domain the necessary tools to do so.
Prerequisites :  Course in fundamental physics, course in electric circuits.
Workshops :  Group project.
Organization :  2nd quarter.
Written notes :  Details will be given during the first class.

Reference book: Fundamentals of Power Electronics. Erickson, Maksimovic. 2001.
Assessment :  Project 50 % and oral exam 50 % (1st and 2nd session).
