Course contents :  This course on the operation of electrical markets is also open to managers and directors of public and private sector organisations.
Why do so many consumers consider the price of electricity in Belgium to be unsatisfactory?
Do you know the principles of how electrical markets operate? Regional, Belgian and European regulatory frameworks?
Do you understand the interactions between electrical markets and other forms of energy?
Faced with the concerns expressed by business, consumers, consumer organisations, suppliers, traders, network managers, regulators and government, in 2005 and 2006 the University of Liege took the initiative of creating a structured course on the subject as part of its training for Civil Engineers and, in particular, electricians.
Surely the transparency of a market depends upon all actors having full information and understanding of the it? This is the information which the University of Liege wants to contribute by organising this course not only for its students but also by opening it up to delegates from companies anxious to understand market mechanisms and to better identify opportunities for reducing their energy-buying costs.
The 2005 and 2006 courses were, therefore, opened up to managers and directors of public and private sector organisations and training centres who followed the course with great enthusiasm, it being one of its kind in Belgium. In 2007, the University of Liege decided to continue to admit external participants to the course and also to give the floor to external participants on themes which have been identified as of great topical interest.
This course will therefore be completed by specialised half-day seminars, led by external speakers.
