Course contents :  The course will be organized in five sections: 1) Labour supply; 2) Human capital investment; 3) Labour demand; 4) Internal markets and 5) Miscellaneous: unions, labour conditions, job search models, discrimination.
Course objective :  To give the student a complete view of the main economic theories that allow the understanding of the supply and demand behaviour in labour markets.
Prerequisites :  Basic microeconomics
Workshops :  Analytical study of the Labour force survey (LFS) results.
Organization :  The course is organized during the second semester into theoretical (2:00 hours) and problem resolution (1:30 hours) sessions each week.
Theoretical issues are mainly presented with the help of graphs. Labour supply and demand modesl are studied analytically and used as background for exercises.
Written notes :  The main reference is "The Economics of Work and Pay", Hamermesh D. S. and A. Rees, Harper Collins, 5th edition, 1993. The course is completed with some theoretical notes and an exercise brochure.

Cahuc, P. and A. Zylberberg, "Le chômage, fatalité ou nécessité ?, Flammarion, 2004.
Assessment :  The final writing examination includes theoretical questions and problems covering all the material of the course. A mid-term examination is proposed in March, but participation is voluntary.
