Course contents :  The course is divided in two parts.

During the first part lectures are provided on the basics of restorative justice . The following themes are tackled: the concept of restorative justice, its inspirations, types of restorative justice pratices, evaluative research on restorative justice and european and international policy developments in this field.

In the second part of the course the belgian restorative justice practices are studied and analysed from a european perspective. This is done through the preparation and presentation in small groups of a paper and discussion with a practitioner.
Course objective :  - Gain basic knowledge of restorative justice in general and restorative justice practices in Belgium more particularly; devote particular attention to the european and international dimension of developments in restorative justice.
- Further the writing and presentation skills of students
Prerequisites :  none
Workshops :  The students prepare in small groups:
- a paper and a presentation on one of the Belgian restorative justice practices, or
- a paper and a presentation on the development of restorative justice in Belgium analysed from a European perspective.
Organization :  - lectures,
- coaching for the preparation of the paper and the presentation of the paper,
- oral presentation of the paper during the course,
- discussion with a practitioner
Written notes :  Will be made available for the students: the powerpoint presentations used during the course, acollection of texts supporting the presentations given by the lecturer, and the papers prepared by the students.
Assessment :  The evaluation will be based on three elements:
- an oral exam,
- the paper,
- the presentation of the paper.
