Course contents :  Technical, economic, geopolitical and sociological characteristics of the energy industry. Sources, consumption, production, reserves and resources of primary energy. Fossil fuels and their properties. Combustion: a detailed study of thermochemical and kinetic aspects and resulting pollutants. Techniques and equipment involved in gaseous, liquid and solid combustion. Combustibles and nuclear reactors. Other branches of nuclear and reactor technology. The combustion cycle and the problem of waste. Security aspects of the nuclear industry.
Course objective :  General introduction to primary energy vectors and techniques for converting chemical and nuclear energy into thermal energy.
Prerequisites :  Bachelor of Engineering
Workshops :  Integrated into the course sessions
Organization :  The course takes place on Tuesday mornings from 0830 to 1030 in the first quarter.
Written notes :  Copy of overheads
Assessment :  Written examination (exercise) and oral examination during the January session.
