| Course contents : | Glass is a kind of material used in many applications. It can have various chemical compositions. We discuss the particular aspects of the glassy phases with respect to their structure-properties relationships.
The kinetic and thermodynamic aspects of the different preparation methods of these metastable phases are considered. The main structural characteristics of these phases are described by showing what can be deduced from some main investigation methods (IR, NMR, X-ray diffraction, Raman, ionic conductivity...) |

| Course objective : | The objectives of the course is to give an overall view of the specific characteristics of the vitreous state and to present the main characterisation methods suitable for that particular state of the matter. |

| Organization : | The schedule of the courses is decided in concertation with the students. |
|
| Written notes : | Each student receives a copy of the slides used at the oral présentation. |
|
| Assessment : | At the oral examination, the student must be able to discuss the different aspects and properties of the vitreous state.
The student has also to prepare a small report on a specific subject choosen as a function of his research interest. |
