Holder(s) :  Patrick Motte, Claire Périlleux
Language :  Langue française
Course contents :  The course is devoted to the physiological control of plant growth and development 'from seed to seed'. Successive chapters concern : embryogenesis, germination, vegetative growth (root and shoot formation, nastic and tropic movements), reproductive development (induction of flowering, floral morphogenesis) and fertilization. These different developmental steps are described from fundamental processes to ecophysiological controls.

In a second part, meristems are studied in more detail since their activity clearly governs plant's life. Cell cycle, stem cells maintenance and meristem patterning are important topics. Last chapters are devoted to cell differentiation and cell death.
Course objective :  The aim of the course is to show how plant development is controlled, from physiological to cellular, molecular and genetical scales. Methodological approaches of research will be emphasized to help students entering any topic in plant physiology.
Prerequisites :  Basic knowledge in cellular and molecular biology.
Workshops :  Practicals are organised in 5 successive afternoons. Three groups of students follow successively the practicals during week # 2, 3 and 4 of second quadrimestre.
Organization :  Lessons of 90 minutes, scheduled on the second quadrimestre (wednesday, 8:30-10 a.m.; thursday, 8:30-10 a.m.; friday of weeks #1 to 5, 10:45-12:15 a.m.). Two teachers : C. Périlleux and P. Motte
Written notes :  Illustrations and copy of powerpoint slides
Assessment :  Oral examination. A single exam is organised by both examinators. A minimum total result of 10/20 is required to pass, with at least 8/20 with each examinator.
