| Course objective : | The objective of the course is to introduce the students to the key concepts and the method of political anthropology. The course relies predominantly on "Anthropologie politique" (C. Rivière 2000) and is subdivided into four parts: a general presentations of concepts and debates within the discipline, an analysis of the politcal field in pre-industrial societies, a study of political structures in movement and an overview of the sacred dimensions of political power.
The more specific objective of the course is to allow the student to use the key concepts of the discipline in an analysis of either a concrete situation or a political institution in Western or non Western societies. |

| Prerequisites : | A good proficiency in English is required |

| Workshops : | The students will submit a personal assignment in the form of a paper of maximum 3000 words on a topic of their choice. |
 |
| Organization : | The course is being taught every Tuesday between 11am and 1pm during the first semester at the auditorium Raikem (Building 31 - Sart-Tilman).
