Locoregional anaesthesia techniques, 1re année

Survey of the techniques which involve administration of local anesthetics (and adjuvants) locally, loco-regionally, to plexi, neuropially and epidurally to block afferent stimulation of the central nervous system.

The anaesthesia and the reanimation applied to particular cases: child, pregnant woman, old subject, urgent patient, intensive care, diagnostic and/or therapeutic intervention, outpatient clinic, ..., 1re année

Series of lectures focused on the pathophysiologic particularities which require specific adaptation in the administration of anesthetic agents, and the specific monitoring modalities adapted for these patients.

The pain

Overview of pain pathway and treatment of chronic pain.
  • Introduction: hypnosis in the management of pain (M.E. Faymonville)
  • Pain measurement in humans: adults and children (D. Libbrecht)
  • Pharmacology of pain treatment (J. Joris)
  • Routes, formulations and drug combinations opioids, non steroidal anti-inflammatory agents (J. Joris)
  • Psychological management of palliative care patients (R. Hardy)
  • Therapeutics modalities: loco-regional infiltration technics, regional nerve blocks (R. Fontaine)
  • Neurostimulation technique and neuroaxial opioïd therapy (D. Libbrecht)
  • Psychological assessment and management of chronic pain (I. Salamun)

Course objective :
Locoregional anaesthesia techniques, 1re année

To learn how to perfom these techniques with knowledge of the advantages and disadvantages of each.

The anaesthesia and the reanimation applied to particular cases: child, pregnant woman, old subject, urgent patient, intensive care, diagnostic and/or therapeutic intervention, outpatient clinic, ..., 1re année

To learn the specificities of these types of patients.

The pain

- The course provides a comprehensive introduction to the multi faceted topic pain.
- It is an introduction to pain management : pain assessment and strategic treatment options.
