  • Test/quizz
STEP 2 - "New Thinking" New concepts in the following areas :

  • Strategy
STEP 3 - "BEING" Conferences and debates

STEP 4 - "DOING" Case study in teams (5 x 10)

  • Coaching per discipline (Finance, Operations, Marketing and Human resources management)
STEP 5 - "INTEGRATING"Corporate strategy residential seminar (2 days) including the first play off of the challenge
Objectif du cours :  After completion of this seminar, students should be able :

· to integrate in a holistic view the various management concepts studied during the 4 first years of their university education, to synthesize and bear in mind the essential ones in each discipline;

· to broaden their knowledge of strategy integrating the CSR vision in management;

· within the challenge, to make strategic decisions in teams (time and conflict management, negotiation abilities) stressing the interdependence of the company's activities;

· live a "last and unforgettable" touch in their training
Pré-requis :  Néant
Travaux pratiques :  Several teaching methods are used in this multidisciplinary seminar:

· case study analysis

· conferences with guest speakers in various disciplines of management

· online self-evaluation

· residential seminar
Organisation :  On the first day of the seminar week, the problem to be solved is communicated to each group of 5 students. Each team decide on an original name for their temporary consulting group. Their analysis starts with reading the case study, identifying the elements that will support their reflection and gathering the necessary complementary information. Groups have to integrate the theoretical concepts gathered in the "thinking" and formulate recommendations.

At the end of the week, they have to orally present an «executive summary» (in a Powerpoint format) of their answer to the submitted question, which is also supported by a word document of maximum 10 pages (appendices not included).

Students participate to the various activities during the week and should take the opportunity to collect some ideas for their case resolution. On the Monday, students will attend to the conferences, on Tuesday they will be coached in the four disciplines to analyze the Brussels Airlines case study. Wednesday is free for their case resolution. On Thursday and Friday, they will be coached by strategy and CSR professors.

At the end of the residential seminar, semi-finals are organized to select 4 teams which will compete in the final run. All documents supporting their presentation are handled on a USB key to the coordinator prior to the semi-finals.

Finally, the 4 teams defend their project in front of a jury composed of executives and academics. Each team has 15 minutes to present their recommendations followed by a 15 minutes question time. At the end of this jury, 4 teams will be receiving an award:

· Prize for excellence (N°1)

· Prize for creativity

· Prize for exhaustiveness

· Prize for communication (conviction)

Teams are rewarded by the sponsoring company.
Evaluation :  The evaluation is twofold :

  • individual in a MCQ related to the basics of the «thinking» (30% of the final grade)
  • group evaluation within the team assignment resolution of the company problem in the case study (70% of the final grade)

Criteria for the team group assignment are :

  • Clear situation analysis- how students understand the various components of the case and how they structure their analysis and recommendations.
  • Team collaboration - how students participate in groups and distribute tasks effectively.
  • Analysis exhaustiveness - the level of scientific approach (justification of the approach and capacity of integrating the multi-disciplinarity of the recommendations (link with the «thinking» module).
  • Interesting point of view - how students are committed in finding a solution to the problem and in opting for specific choices.
  • Originality of the presentation - how creative students are in their solution and in the way they present it.
  • Pertinent recommendations - how valuable and coherent the recommendations are.
  • Oral presentation - how students can professionally present their solution in front of the jury.
