| Aperçu général : | This is an unconventional and interdisciplinary legal course which will introduce you to the way in which risks are regulated today in Europe. We will be focusing on those public health and environmental risks stemming from the introduction of new and old technologies (such as GMO food, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, medical devices and nanotechnologies) in order to identify the approach currently undertaken in Europe to deal with the hazards stemming from the marketing of these substances. |

| Objectif du cours : | The aim of the course is to familiarize the students to this growing area of European regulation which currently keeps busy not only big industrial groups, but also international law firms. |
|
| Pré-requis : | This course does not require any specific previous knowledge, even though a basic knowledge of European Community Law could make things easier. Please be advised that only a reasonable knowledge of the English language is expected. Don't be afraid: also your teacher is not an English native speaker! |

| Organisation : | This course will be highly interactive and possibly entertaining. It will be based on case studies that will be handed down to the students from session to session. Students will rely on a syllabus containing some readings, which will be provided at the beginning of the course.
Each student is required to attend the teaching sessions and to do a reasonable preparatory work. Students are expected to actively participate in class discussions and debates. |

| Evaluation : | Final assessment will be by means of a written examination (to be held at the end of the course) which constitutes 70% of the final mark. The remaining 30% of the final assessment is based on oral participation (comments and presentations) in class. |
