Course contents :  The course is organised in 2 parts.
The 1st part is focused on classic sociology and especially Machiavelli, Montesquieu, Tocqueville and Weber.
The 2nd part, about contemporary sociology is seen in "Sociologiy of organized action" (which studies the strategic analysis of Crozier-FRIEDBERG).
Course objective :  Clear up the structure of sociological reasoning with help of some famous works of the sociological tradition.
The 2 levels of reasoning will be:
-on the analytic level, the central concepts of interest, value and structure.
-on the nominal level, the great theories of democracy, bureaucracy and religion.
Prerequisites :  none
Workshops :  A project is currently under development for February 2008 : a limited seminar on thema "Religion and Democracy", based on the work of M. Gauchet ant P. Valadier who have developed the ideas of Tocqueville (to confirm in November 2007)
Organization :  Discussions based on chapters read beforehand by the students.
