Master in Physical Sciences3
Holder(s) :  Joseph Cugnon
Language :  Langue française
Course contents :  Introduction to Relativistic Quantum Mechanics and Quantum Field Theory. The emphasis is put on the concept of fields as systems with infinite number of degrees of freedom, on relativistic and gauge invariances and on the notion of particle as arising from the quantization of a (scalar) field. Feynmann rules are presented as tools for evaluating the rate of simple processes.
Course objective :  The goal is threefold: to familiarise with the concepts of quantum field theory, to understand simple processes in the light of these concepts and to evaluate their rate with the help of Feynman rules.
Prerequisites :  Solid background in Quantum Mechanics (PHYS0211-1 or equivalent)
Workshops :  yes
Organization :  See organisation of Masters curriculum
Written notes :  no
Assessment :  oral exam
