PHYS0253-1  Experimental bases of nuclear physics and radiations detection
Duration :  30h Th, 30h Pr
Credits/ECTS :
Bachelor in physical sciences, 3rd yearPremier quadrimestre6
One-year preliminary programme leading to the Master in Space SciencesToute l'année6
Holder(s) :  Paul‑Dominique Dumont
Language :  Langue française
Course contents :  The first part of the course is dedicated to the description of properties of the radioactivity, of the nucleus and of the interactions between nuclei, based on experimental approaches. The interactions of the charged particles and X and gamma rays with matter are described. Some applications of nuclear physics are presented : fission, fusion, artificial radioactive nuclei used in nuclear medicine, nuclear analysis methods, ....
The second part of the course describes some ray and particle detection methods : the proportional counter, the Geiger counter, the neutron detector, the gamma scintillation detector and also the semiconductor detector.
