Course contents :  The course is divided into two parts: descriptive statistics and probability theory.
Course objective :  Develop statistical thinking and show how probabilistic models can be used to analyse random processes.
Prerequisites :  Basic concepts of analysis and algebra are necessary.
Workshops :  The 40 hours of practicals will be divided into tutorials and practicals in the computer room of the mathematical Institute. Moreover, homeworks will be regularly given.
Organization :  The courses and the tutorials/practicals are given over the two semesters according to a timetable distributed to the students in the beginning of the academic year.
Written notes :  Notes written in French (on the theory and on the exercises) will be sold to the students at the start of the academic year.
Assessment :  The final mark is a weighted mean of the marks attributed to the three following assesments:

- personnal homework giving rise to a written report as well as an oral examination (the same day as the oral examen below)

- written exam on exercises during the period of examination of May-June.

- oral exam on theory during the period of examination of May-June.

Moreover, two tests are planned during the second semester. They are useful for the students in order to get a feed back from the professor. They are not taken into account in the final mark of the course.
