Duration :  30h SEM
Credits/ECTS :
Master in French and Romance Languages and Literatures, in-depth approach, 1st year19
Holder(s) :  Daniel Droixhe, Françoise Tilkin
Language :  Langue française
Course contents :  Various aspects of Voltaire's work will be examined. The lectures will focus on voltairian commitments, in order to study its contents and impact, but also its formal structures (tale, novel, dictionary, dialogue, correspondence...). This implies the application of the methodological means established by current criticism. Voltaire's theatre will be considered in its aspects of conception, textual evolution and reception. The engravings and practical conditions of performance will be taken into account, as well as the "serial" paradigm of imitations and parodies. Voltaire's presence in the Liège literary life will constitute a chapter of the lectures, linked to a more general study of the dissemination of Enlightenment topics, by counterfeiting, press, pamphlets, etc.
Course objective :  An introduction to the new currents of research, focusing on : discourse analysis, narratology, text-image relationship, socio-cultural networks, serial approach as practised by Sylvain Menant and his school in Paris.
