LOCO0525-1  Multidisciplinary approach to the musculoskeletal system (partim II) ¿ theory
Duration :  65h Th
Credits/ECTS :
Bachelor in physiotherapy and readaptation, 2nd yearDeuxième quadrimestre7
One-year preliminary programme leading to the master in physiotherapy and readaptation7
Holder(s) :  Thierry Bury, Jean‑Michel Crielaard, Jean‑Louis Croisier, Marie‑Paule Defresne, Marguerite Foidart‑Dessalle, Yves Henrotin, Bernard Rogister, Marc Vanderthommen
Language :  Langue française
Course contents :  This module presents the locomotive system's essential systems: muscles, tendons, bones, cartilage and ligaments.

For each element, the histological structure is detailed, biochemistry being interested above all in the structure of bones and muscles. The most common general pathologies will be detailed: traumatic muscular lesions, tendinopathies, tendinous ruptures, bursitis, osteoporosis, traumatic fractures and fatigue fractures, arthrosis, sprains of varying degrees of seriousness.

This module consists of the following courses:

- Histology (M.P. DEFRESNE, 5 h + 5 h)
- Human biochemistry (B. ROGISTER, 5 h + 5 h)
- Human physiology (partim phosphocalcic regulation) (T. BURY, 3 h)
- General pathology (Y. HENROTIN, 5 h)
- Elementary notions of pathology and the musculoskeletal system (J.M. CRIELAARD, M. FOIDART, Y. HENROTIN, 20 h)
- Special pathology (M. FOIDART, 5 h)
- Theory and techniques of re-educating the musculoskeletal system (J.L. CROISIER, 15 h + 15 h)
- Electro-physiotherapy (M. VANDERTHOMMEN, 15 h + 20 h)
Course objective :  Theory and techniques of re-educating the musculoskeletal system (J.L. CROISIER, 15 h + 15 h)

This course describes the different essential treatment techniques applied by the physiotherapist.

The prevention of amyotrophy and strengthening muscles. The particular aspects of the different modes of contraction - in particular eccentric - are analysed as well as a description of technical possibilities. The different applications to specific pathological contexts will be offered.

Muscle stretching technique: passive and active. The concept of slackening antagonistic muscles - essential in re-education - will be developed.

The foundations of diverse proprioceptive re-education programmes will be applied to various articulations.

Re-education techniques and objectives in the context of cartilage damage
Prerequisites :  General chemistry, general biology, histologie, cytology, general physiology, general biochemistry, human biochemistry.

Particular links with a course on the curriculum:

Previously: Introduction to human anatomy; physics and electricity (for electrotherapy)

Later: further studies in physiotherapy
Workshops :  See LOCO0526-1
Organization :  See the timetable notice board
Written notes :  Course reading available from the lecture rand on MyULG (Reading on all the material covered on one file plus slide show on MyULG)
Assessment :  Practical and theoretical evaluation to be defined within the framework of an integrated evaluation (integrated written exam in June).
