Course contents :  
  • Further study of everyday English vocabulary and introduction to business English vocabulary.
  • Review and study of grammar basics.
  • Developing reading and listening comprehension skills.
  • Communication practice in everyday and business English.
  • Self-study on website.
Course objective :  Developing and strengthening the four skills (listening and reading comprehension, oral and written expression) in the field of everyday and business English.
Prerequisites :  This course is not a beginners'course. Students should have a good basic knowledge (secondary/ high school level or ALTE level 1 or Council of Europe level A2)
Workshops :  Students studying two languages:

The exercise course is taught one hour/week during the second semester. Content: listening comprehension and communication activities.

International Management section:

The exercise course is taught one hour/week during the second semester. Content: listening comprehension and communication activities based on Market Leader.
Organization :  For students studying 2 languages:

The in-class course is taught to about 25 students for two hours every week, three hours in the second semester. Students are required to prepare the units from the coursebook every week (about one unit every three weeks). This preparation work varies in time depending on the students' previous knowledge. There will be some tutorial hours to help the students prepare their business simulation.

International Management section:

The course is taught 2 hours a week and 1 hour exercises a week during the second semester (grammar, communication, comprehension). Students are expected to prepare the grammar exercises as well as the Market Leader activities weekly. Possibility of conversation club and tutorial.

Assessment :  For students studying 2 languages:

1. Continuous assessment:

  • Assessment test at the beginning of the year.
  • 4 computer-marked in-class grammar tests.
  • Written assignments.
2. Written exams (10/20):

January written exam (3/20) / May written exam (7/20)*

  • Reading comprehension exercises based on an unseen text.
  • Vocabulary exercises.
  • Grammar exercises.
  • Writing exercise.
*Students who get less than 1.5 out of 3 for the January written exam will have a longer written exam in May out of 10 instead of 7.

3. Oral exams (8/20):

  • Business simulation in groups of 4 students based on one of the units from the coursebook (2/20).
  • 15-minute discussion based on a few texts from the coursebook and 10 pages of texts from the British and American press chosen in the readings file (6/20)
4. Listening comprehension exam (2/20)

International Management section:

  • Written exam in January (25%): vocabulary, grammar, reading and listening comprehension, written expression.
  • Written exam in June (50%): vocabulary, grammar, reading and listening comprehension, written expression.
  • Oral exam during the 2nd semester (25%): Business simulation (simulation in groups of 6 students of a conversation in business English based on Market Leader topics)
  • Re-sit: written and oral exam.
