Course contents :  Geological context of major industrial mineral deposits (by use) :
1) Refractories, Insulators, Foundry Sands
2) Glass and ceramics
3) Fillers and Pigmen
4) Fertilizers
5) Building materials
6) Abrasives
7) Drilling muds
8) Filters/Absorbers/Ion exchangers
Course objective :  1) To present the regional and local geological context of main raw materials deposits
2) To identify specific criteria for prospecting these mineral resources
3) To establish a clear link between ore deposit typology and exploitation techniques
4) To sketch the geopolotical context for each raw materials and to present its economical importance
5) To present the impact of geological and mineralogical characteristics on ore processing technologies and environmental issues
Prerequisites :  General Geology
Workshops :  Macroscopic samples of ores
Microscopic observation
Websites and documents of major companies
Organization :  Theoretical seminars of two hours
