Course contents :  The course is dealing with the issue of development and regional planning. It is made of three main parts. The first part is concerned with the issue of development: concepts, methods, major classical theories, new paradigms (such as sustainable development). The second is studying the development at two major scales: the international scale and the regional scale. The third part is related with the development and the planning at four scales: international, national, regional and Belgian. The specificities of the Walloon context is developed at the end of the course.
Course objective :  With this course, the students will be able to make reference with both, theoretical and practical dimensions of the development issue. The related knowledge have two main objectives: to understand the problems and to intervene within the frame of development and planning.
Prerequisites :  BAC 2 and 3 courses of economic geography
Good basic knowledge of micro and macro-economy.
To be open-minded concerning social and economic problems.
Workshops :  Three worshops are proposed :
- review of the scientific litterature
- researches on disparity indicators
- comparative study on development and planning policy
Organization :  15 hours of theoretical courses
5 sessions of 3 hours worshops

Assessment :  Personal works (joined in a written file and orally presented): 50% of the quotation
Theoretical exam: 50% of the quotation.
