GCIV0030-2  Hyperstatic Structures
Duration :  40h Th, 60h Pr
Credits/ECTS :
civil engineering in construction, 1st year7
Holder(s) :
Language :  Langue française
Course contents :  Part 1 - Fundamentals of Structural Analysis: Introduction - General theorems - Internal forces and deflections in statically determinate structures - Influence lines - Methods of structiral analysis for statically indeterminate structures - Flexibility method - Stiffness method - Rotation method - Moment distribution method - Exercises.
Part 2 - Fundamentals of Elastic Plate Theory : Pure bending - Bending under transverse loads - Support conditions - Solving the fundamental equation - Circular plates - Approximate solutions - Orthotropic plates and grillages - Linear theory of plates loaded in their plane and plate buckling.
Part 3 - Fundamentals of elastic stability : Genral principles - Column buckling - Warping torsion - Lateral torsional buckling - Buckling by bending and torsion.
Course objective :  From the general theorems, develop the several methods of elastic first order structural analysis for statically indeterminate structures such as continous beams and frames. Also provide an introduction to the elastic theory of plates. Also use the theorem of the minimum total potential energyy to derive the the elastic critical loads of structures.
Prerequisites :  Elementary statics - Mechanics of solids and materials.
Workshops :  Exercises and evaluation.
Organization :  Lectuures (40 h) and exercises (60 h) organised as periods of 2 to 4 hours.
Written notes :  Available.
Assessment :  Several evaluations (only exercises) during the semester. At the end of the semester, written and oral examinations doveted respectively to practical applications and theoretical aspects.
