Course contents :  In general this course presents:

  • The principles, characteristics and varieties of multimedia in general
  • The advantages of multimedia and its requirements on both linguistic and cognitive levels, particularly within the framework of language learning
  • Its involvement and implications as concerns language teaching objectives and methods
  • The modalities of its utilisation in a course and in a French as a foreign and second language classroom
The course focuses on different kinds of documents and supporting materials used in a language class (pictures, photos, comic strips, advertisements, audio and video materials, televised documentaries, etc.), as well as New Information and Communication Technologies in Education. (NICTE)

It develops a critical analysis of these documents and supporting materials, as well as their pedagogical utilisation, with a view to the eventual creation of a course of studies using these tools.
Course objective :  To enable participants to use different tools and supporting materials both critically and creatively, in particular, computerized and data communication elements; to associate them coherently and efficiently into their teaching of French as a foreign and second language; and to prepare and implement integrated pedagogical sequences both for the language class and distance learning programmes.
Prerequisites :  To have some knowledge and/or experience in linguistics and/or teaching; to know how to use a computer and its basic functions (text processing, electronic messaging, websurfing...).
Workshops :  After presenting the theory, the course is organized as a seminar to which each of the participants contributes according to his/her speciality, readings and/or an individual work he/she will present or draft.

Written notes :  Various bibliographic documents and references are communicated to the participants throughout the course.
Assessment :  Oral or written exam, and/or individual work, according to the participants' projects.
