| Duration : | 15h Th |
| Credits/ECTS : |
| Holder(s) : | Bernard Gilbert |
| Language : | Langue française |
| Course contents : | First part: General considerations on non-aqueous solvents:
The solvent and the aqueous solution - types of solvents - the process of solvation - in molecular media dissociating and not dissociating - in ionic media
Thermodynamic aspects of solvation - definition of the standard state - measurement of a coefficient of activity in non-aqueous media - correlation of the analytical properties while passing from one solvent to the other: - transfer properties
Second part: Analytical aspects: Acid-base concepts with protons exchange - in dissociating media - in non dissociating media - in ionic media.
Variation of a property following the transfer of a S1 solvent towards anotherS2 solvent. Ions Exchange with participation of the solvent. Oxydoreduction in non-aqueous media |
| Course objective : | The goal of the course is not to give details on the applications of non-aqueous solvents but to present the fundamental concepts which allow to evaluate a solvent for an given analytical reaction, on the basis of qualitative and quantitative considerations. The emphasis is on the general conclusions of these concepts and especially, on their limitations. |
| Prerequisites : | Good knowledge of the basic concepts of electrochemistry and thermodynamics presented in previous years |
| Organization : | Theoretical course, on the 1st or 2d semester
Duration: 15 hours |
| Written notes : | Course notes and transparencies were written, in English, and are available |
| Assessment : | The evaluation includes: a general examination in May-June (one hour of written preparation followed by an oral defense) |
