BIOL0215-1  Cell physiology and animals histology
Duration :  30h Th, 20h Pr
Credits/ECTS :
Bachelor in biological sciences, 2nd yearToute l'année4
Holder(s) :  Jean‑Christophe Plumier, Marc Thiry
Language :  Langue française
Course contents :  Part A: Histology

1. The epithelial tissues
2. Glandular epithelia
3. The connective tissues and the cartilage
4. Bone tissue
5. Muscles
6. Nervous tissue and blood

Part B: Cell Physiology

1. Ionic exchanges

2. Cell communications

3. Muscle contraction
Course objective :  The main aim are :
To study the relations between the cells structure and their functions
To give a general sketch of the wovens structure and of animals organs
To emphasize how the organisation of the wovens and organes confirm their functions
Prerequisites :  Basic notions in cell biology
Workshops :  Pratical work in cell physiology (ion transports, muscle contraction) is offered. Written reports are requested.
Organization :  The theoretical courses are given in the first quadrimester on Monday at 9h until 11h , in the pratical works big room (first floor) in the Zoology institut (Buil. I1, Van Beneden qai 22 in Liège). Every theoretical courses are followed in the same room by a pratical works session where the student examine different histological preparations that illustrate the course.

The theorical portion of the course in Cell physiology is given on the first 5 Thursday. The Hands-on portion of the course takes place during the 5 last weeks at the institute of Botany (B22).
