| Course contents : | The course is given in two parts (Partim I and Partim II).
Partim II is devoted to the study of the regulation of the functions of the organism :
1. Endocrine function of the pancreas: abnormalities of glucose metabolism regulation 2. Calcium and phosphate regulation and abnormalities of bone tissue metabolism
3. Endocrine pathology: 1. General concepts ; 2. Pituitary hormones ; 3. Thyrod function ; 4. Reproductive endocrine function ; 5. Adrenal cortex ; 6. Adrenal medulla ; 7. Pregnancy ;
and to the study of some important pathologies :
cardiovascular diseases (+ free radicals and antioxydants); autoimmune diseases; allergy; innate errors of metabolism.
Two seminars are devoted to discussion of scientific articles presented by the students, two to targeted biological explorations (serum proteins, blood lipids,...) and two to laboratory results interpretation. |

| Course objective : | The objective of the course is the knowledge of the biochemical lesions which cause diseases, that the abnormality comes from an error of biosynthesis due to gene mutation, or that it results from an acquired disturbance of metabolic regulation. The course must thus lead the student to include/understand the biochemical mechanisms which underlie normal and pathological phenomena . The course will find its prolongation in the practical applications of biochemical diagnosis in the clinical laboratory. |
