ASTR0206-1  Evolution and stability of stars

Course contents :  The first part of this course is devoted to the study of the internal structure and the evolution of stars. The general equations are presented and results are discussed through simplified models.

The second part is an introductory presentation of variable stars and of the stability of stars with respect to radial and non radial perturbations.
Course objective :  The aim is to know the different phases of stellar evolution and also to learn how to interpret results with the help of simple assumptions.
Prerequisites :  Course Astrophysics and Geophysics
Organization :  The course is organized during the second semester in 3 hour seminars.
Written notes :  A syllabus is available.
Assessment :  Each student chooses a topic discussed during the course and presents it during in 20 minutes. The other parts of the course are subject to short additional questions.
